2019 Summer Staff Highlight: Stuart

Stuart is joining us at Clearwater for his second year in a row, all the way from Glasgow, Scotland. His older sister also worked at Clearwater for two years as well and he is excited to be following in her footsteps. Stuart is very excited to be returning to Clearwater this summer and reclaiming his title as Champion of the 9-square court. He’s very athletic and loves the outdoors so you’re sure to find him either on the games field or on the lake this summer. Once the famous tennis player Andy Murray visited Stuart’s school, and as part of the eco-committee, Stuart got to ask his questions and spend the day with him. He has visited 25 European countries as well as the USA and Canada, bringing his country count up to 27 at such a young age! While he would love this to be true, Stuart’s band has never played a festival before. In fact, he is not even in a band…maybe one day though!

Read on to find out more on what we learned about Clearwater’s 9-square champ, Stuart…

1. What’s your favorite thing about Clearwater?

My favourite thing about Clearwater is the people!
Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and made me feel right at home when I first arrived last year, it was lovely to be a part of and made me want to come back so much this year.

2. What do you do when you’re not at camp?

When I am not at camp, I study Economics and Geography at the University of Glasgow. I am about to go into my final year and I am currently doing research for my dissertation which is really interesting! I also play volleyball for my club team Forza Ragazzi, who play in the Premier Division in Scotland.

3. Favorite childhood memory?

My favourite childhood memory is winning a bronze medal for volleyball at the International Children’s Games in Canada! We beat a team from Israel to get the bronze which was a really tough game. It was such a great experience overall and such a brilliant feeling to win a medal with some of my best friends.

4. Favorite vacation and why?

My favourite holiday was to a place called Annecy in France. I went with my family and it was such a great time. We went paragliding as well as swimming in the lake and playing football with the locals. The weather was also a lot nicer than what we are used to in Scotland which was a big plus!

5. What are you most excited for at Clearwater this summer?

I am most excited to see everyone again and catch up with them as it will be great to hear how everyone is getting on! I am also really looking forward to meeting the new counselors and campers I haven’t met before as I know it will be a great summer, especially with Rob as the new director!

(We think so too, Stuart!)
